The Office of the Women Rights Advisor was among strategic partners who attended an auction dinner to raise funds for addressing neglected women’s diseases.

These common health conditions like obstetric fistula, cervical and breast cancer, GBV, plus high maternal and child mortality rates, among others, often have severe consequences on women’s health, well-being, and productivity.
They sadly affect thousands of women countrywide due to widespread poverty, insufficient awareness on their causes and preventive measures to be taken, and inadequate health support systems.

The Government is committed to addressing these challenges through development of appropriate policies and legislative frameworks.
Hon. Chiggai Harriette in her keynote address, challenged Non-State Actors, development partners, Academia and local communities, to step up and play their role.
“Together we can break down the barriers surrounding these diseases, and ensure better healthcare for the overall well-being of women”, she said.

She noted that her Office strongly believes in promoting gender equality and empowering women to make informed decisions about their lives, as this is key to their economic independence.
Hon. Chiggai said the empowerment of women on health matters will manifest in a healthier Nation as they often play the role of nurturers and caregivers; making huge sacrifices for their families and local communities.

On the increasing cases of Gender-Based Violence in Kenya, the Advisor said plans to roll out a massive countrywide campaign dubbed “Safe Homes: Safe Spaces” campaign have been finalized.
This campaign is targeted at homes and individuals’ level, and seeks to empower women to realize that they have the power to remove themselves from toxic situations early enough before the violence begins.
