Kenya’s efforts in achieving gender parity across different sectors on 5th November 2024 received a major boost with the launch of the Office of the Women Rights Advisor’s Strategic Direction.
Top Government officials, Industry players and Development Partners joined the President’s Advisor on Women Rights Hon. Harriette Chiggai in a colourful and well-attended ceremony at a Nairobi hotel to unveil the document.
It serves as a blueprint to accelerate gender parity across various sectors, through close collaboration with strategic partners.
Speaker after speaker in the event pledged to augment Government efforts in empowering women countrywide with capacity-building initiatives to help unlock their full economic potential.
“We are here to envision and ignite real, systemic change for the benefit of women and girls across the country. Let’s get inspired, get engaged, and get moving together!”, Hon. Chiggai said.
Echoing her sentiments, Ambassador Monica Juma, Senior Advisor to the President and Chair of the Security Council said empowering women is the solution to bringing more women to the decision-making table for improved economic growth and sustainable development.
The leaders decried the worrying rise in reported cases of Gender-Based Violence and femicide countrywide, and cautioned members of the public to report cases of abuse in their midst.
Together they vowed to work closely and create safe spaces for the ‘daughters, sisters and mothers’ in the community, within which they can exercise their independence and thrive in dignity.
During the ceremony, several leaders were celebrated as gender champions for the inspiring work they are undertaking within their respective spheres to mainstream gender parity initiatives.
Through the strategies outlined in the Strategic Direction document, the President’s Advisor committed to reaching 8 million women across Kenya in efforts to improve their livelihoods through economic participation in development activities.
